For “Carmen” and “Walpurgic Night”
It’s every choreographer’s dream to stage “Carmen” and “Walpurgis Night,” as they are two beautiful works by two great artists, George Bizet and Charles Gounod. When the artistic director of the National ballet, Olga Pango, offered me a co-operation on these two pieces, I accepted without thinking and immediately began preparing the choreography. This assignment required a special inspiration from me, as these two pieces have an existing choreography by world-renowned choreographers, such as Alberto Alonso, Balanchine, Mats Esk ect. When I started doing the choreography, I realized that I didn’t even know the ballet ensemble of the National ballet and my creativity was always better when I was choreographing ballet dancers I knew personally. So I was preparing a lot at home, just myself and the music. And from there, when I started working with the ballet in Skopje, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Combining different styles of movement, I want to present pure, neoclassical, complex technical and exciting choreography to the Macedonian audience. I would like to point out that I have received enormous support from the wonderful ballet ensemble of the National Opera and Ballet.
