Maria Callas-Master class is a drama written by the American writer Terrence McNally in 1995. Runs fictional Masterclass of the famous opera singer Maria Callas, before the end of her life. The play is using music of Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini and Vincenzo Bellini. The play was first performed on Broadway in 1995 with the stars Zoe Caldwell and Audra McDonald.
The story is about opera diva Maria Callas, who owns an hour singing in renowned university “Juilliard School” in New York. The hours she remembers her own life and refers completely unpredictable. Wake her inspirations, fear not to be “ugly duckling” hatred of its rivals, the pressure of the first plays, the triumph in “La Scala” and her affair with Aristotle Onassis, and culminates with the monologue for her self-sacrifice in the name of art .
In 1996. performance is rewarded with “Drama Desk Award” best new drama and “Tony Award” for best performance.
