“Swan Lake” is undoubtedly the greatest ballet of all times. It has endured for more than 130 years, largely due to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s score which is considered by many one of the greatest achievements in music history. He composed it between August of 1875, and March of 1876, and produced it for Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater with choreography by Julius Reisinger on February 20, 1877. Without actually setting out to ‘reform’ ballet music, Tchaikovsky seems to have gone about his task as primarily a musical conception, treating the medium of ballet as worthy of a stronger and more imaginative musical element.
