Viva Vox Choir from Belgrade was formed almost ten years ago by a group of high school graduates who, together with their music teacher and conductor, Jasmina Lorin, wanted to continue the wonderful musical cooperation they had in their high school choir. The choir got its current name in 2005, and in 2009 they introduced beatboxing in their performance, which, along with song arrangements written by the members of the choir, formed the unique sound that made them known throughout the globe. The sound of Viva Vox choir has undergone a number of transformations, and today it is characterised by authentic a cappella (voices only) interpretations of pop-rock and alternative music, accompanied by beatbox.
Viva Vox’s a cappella rendition of Du Hast, a song by a German industrial-metal band Rammstein, went viral on the internet in the summer of 2011, and brought global popularity to the choir in just a few days. After being recognized by the public and the media, the choir only continued to gain in popularity in their native Serbia, as well as the rest of the world, which resulted in tours in Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Macedonia, Belarus and many other countries, as well as stand-out performances on international festivals such as Exit and Sea Dance.
Their greatest career achievement is the concert in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations in New York on the 14thof January 2013, as a part of Orthodox New Year’s celebrations. As the only musical group from this region to ever perform in this hall, Viva Vox has joined the select company of musicians who have had this great honour. Another incredible accomplishment was the concert the choir held in the Great Hall of People in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square.
