Message to the audience…
It is with great pleasure, that we are presenting this ”Bournonville Ballet Night” to the Macedonian audience.
It is not the first time August Bournonville’s ballets are being performed in Skopje, but it is the first time, that we are producing en evening here. We are very happy for the invitation from the artistic director, Olga Pango, to work with the company and the dancers.
Bournonville is Danish and lived in Denmark from 1805 until 1877 and created more than 50 ballets. He was a visionary man, that had much of his first education in France. He is the father of the Royal Danish Ballet and was artistic director there for more than 40 years. He created his own ballet vocabulary, the Bournonville style and technique, as a result of his education in France. Among his most famous ballets are ”Napoli” from 1842 and ”La Sylphide” from 1836.
We have chosen to present here in Macedonia a variety of his smaller ballets inspired by his travels and passion for foreign contries. ”The Conservatory” from 1849, which is a tribute to his youth and education in France, the Pas de Deux from ”The Flower Festival in Genzano” from 1858, is inspired from his travels in Italy and ”La Ventana” from 1856 presents his interest and passion for Spain.
We hope, that it has been a good challenge for the company to work on a different style and technique. It is purely classical ballet and not easy, but the process, we trust, has been invaluable for the dancers. We also hope, that we have given them something, that they can use in their future career, whichever ballets they are going to perform.
Finally, it is our great wish, that you, dear audience, shall enjoy the performance and it shall give you an insight to a different side of ballet, where ”Joie de Vivre” – the Joy of Life – is the most important thing.
So sit back and enjoy the world of August Bournonville.
